Sodium deoxycholate is a high-purity anionic bile salt surfactant widely adopted in biochemistry research, biopharmaceutical manufacturing, diagnostic reagent development, microbiology testing and cosmetic formulation.
As a mild biological detergent, it efficiently lyses cell membranes and solubilizes hydrophobic integral membrane proteins while preserving native protein conformation, ideal for protein extraction, immunoprecipitation, Western blot and protein structural analysis. It serves as a core buffer additive for ELISA and other immunoassays to reduce non-specific binding and ensure stable, reproducible test outcomes.
In vaccine production, it acts as a functional emulsifier and immune adjuvant to stabilize lipid vaccine formulations and strengthen antigen delivery for improved immune response. For microbiological applications, it is added to selective culture media to suppress Gram-positive bacteria growth and facilitate the isolation and identification of Gram-negative strains.
