Reversible disulfide bond reducing agent, diastereomer of DTT. Used in SDS-PAGE, Western blot and protein purification to break intra- and intermolecular disulfide bonds of proteins. It protects free sulfhydryl groups against reoxidation and maintains protein monomer status for molecular weight analysis.
