Use of N-tert-Butyl-2-benzothiazolesulfenamide
N-tert-Butyl-2-benzothiazolesulfenamide is primarily used as a delayed-action vulcanization accelerator in rubber production, particularly for natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), butadiene rubber (BR), and isoprene rubber (IR). It offers excellent scorch resistance and fast curing at high temperatures, making it ideal for tire manufacturing, conveyor belts, hoses, and footwear. Unlike carcinogenic alternatives like NOBS, TBBS is a safer non-nitrosamine-generating alternative. It requires activation by zinc oxide and stearic acid and can be combined with thiurams, dithiocarbamates, and guanidines for enhanced performance. Its low discoloration makes it suitable for light-colored rubber products.
